California, 93401
How to get to the Monday Club

From the South: On the 101 Exit onto Grand Ave (Cal Poly) Turn right onto Grand. At Signal continue straight into driveway\Andrews St. Parking is in the back.
Some History of the Monday Club:
"This beautiful historic building was designed by Hearst Castle architect Julia Morgan and constructed in 1933-1934. The Monday Club is an accomplished building in the Arts and Crafts style, with the attention to detail typical of Morgan’s work, with the style alluding both to the Craftsman Style, as well as the Mission tradition (the Mission tile roof, white stucco walls, and decorative iron work)."
Places to Stay:
All of the hotels listed here are within walking distance of the Monday Club. As in, less than 3 blocks away or a 5 minute walk. (really! you will not need your car!)
The Club- as well as the surrounding Hotels- are at the entrance of our awesome downtown. It is about a 10 minute walk to reach the "metro" downtown area, but there a lot of cool little antique shops, coffee houses and such along the way.
Here are some of the Hotels you can stay at if you want to park your car and forget about using it for the rest of the trip :) All of these Hotels can be found on Google. We have not set aside a "block" of rooms at any one place (since everyone has different wants in hotels- but I assure you these are all super close by.
* Quality Suites- Very spacious rooms, big pool- good for families WEBSITE
* Apple Farm- Very "Anne of Green Gables" Victorian. Very nice\romantic- not really for those with kids who want a pool and a place to run around. They also have a wonderful restaurant and gift shop (see the places to eat for more info). Website HERE
* Holiday Inn (RIGHT across the street from the Monday Club). HERE
* La Cuesta Inn HERE
* Comfort Inn & Suites (Lamplighter Inn) HERE
* Best Western Somerset HERE
* Sands Inn & Suites HERE
And there are a few more- a Super 8, a Travelodge, San Luis Creek Inn, Peach Tree Inn, & a few others all on the same street.
Places to Eat:
Ok- lets get down to business..... Chow time!
You all know that I LOVE to go out and find good places to eat- and SLO is packed full of tasty places... and every place listed here gets my super thumbs up as tasty!
The first section is the ones that are located in the downtown area and most of them are in walking distance of the hotels- but some of them are a bit further away- but all of them are worth the trip. I am sticking to only the places in SLO, because if I go any further- there will be a ton of listings!
Downtown places:
The Apple Farm: Good-ole "home cooking" and has a really cool gift shop (more of a gift house) and a Mill house where they make ice cream and press Cider. This may not be the hotel to stay at with kids, but it is a awesome place to take them to eat and explore. Website HERE
Splash Cafe: AMAZING clam chowder bread bowls, and very tasty Fish & Chips\Seafood. This place is small and gets crowded, but it is worth it if you like the "beach food" vibe. Very tasty bakery items as well (cakes cookies etc). Website HERE
Franks Hot Dogs: Very old school kinda place- they have hot dogs, burgers, corn dogs... and the turkey melt is my personal fave- John loves the Turkey corn dogs.
Mama's Meatball: A quaint little Italian place. This is where John and I got engaged, and they have amazing food! Take note: the place is small- the food takes awhile (don't go when already starving) but the food is worth the wait. (the Chicken Parm with cream sauce instead of red sauce is the way to go!). They also offer a large or small plate portions. We find the small portion to be plenty of food! Website HERE
CPK (California Pizza Kitchen):
Yeah- it's a Chain- but we really love the Pizza and Salads.
Mondeo Cafe:
Lots of fun Fusion bowls and wraps. Lots of flavors from around the world. The Ginger Ale is worth trying- they make it from syrup and soda water right when you order it. Website HERE
Novo:
A really cool "outdoor on a patio over-looking the creek" kind of place. They serve Tapas and drinks. This is not really a place to take kids, and is best when the weather is warm. Website HERE
Gotta drive these places:
Tahoe Joes:
Really tasty steak house! Everything you order is amazing from the soups to the salads and desserts. A very cozy atmosphere and very friendly staff. Tip: If you go in on a Sunday (or during happy hour any day)- sit in the bar area and order off of the happy hour menu- steak sliders and other tasty items are only $2 and are amazing! Website HERE
Upper Crust:
Another amazing Italian place. All the food is amazing and the desserts are fabulous! If you go on a Sunday- Try the "Roasted Garlic Chicken Tomato Cream Soup" It is my fave (it is the main reason I go!) but they sell out of it every week so don't go in too late! All of the food here is amazing. Website HERE
Things to Do:
Ok- so there are a lot of fun things to do when you visit SLO. You can head to any of the many beaches in the area, hang out downtown, or even tour Hearst Castle. here are some of the things that you may want to check out.
Beaches: The best beaches for kids would be Avila Beach, or Pismo Beach. Both have shopping and places to eat right up near the water.
Avila Valley barn:
This is SUCH a fun place! It is a massive "Market Stand" type of place, but has fresh fruit and veggis, huge gift shop areas, petting zoo, roasted corn, corn mazes in fall, pick your own fruit or pumpkins, a ice cream and sweet shop and more. It really is a fun place to take the kids- but even John and I love to go wander around and buy some fresh and tasty produce. Website HERE
Cambria:
Cambria is a awesome and quaint little town about 30\40 miles North of SLO along the HWY 1 coast. It is a very pretty drive and Cambria is full of shops and places to eat and neat little things. The Tea Cozy is where John and I love to go get pots of tea and hang out and have dessert (You cannot go wrong with the sticky toffee pudding.) Let me know if you want anymore info on Cambria and I can tell ya where to go. (Tea Cozy info HERE- and a reservation is recommended!)
Hearst Castle:
About another 25 minutes north of Cambria. It is a really amazing place to take a tour. Note: little ones will have a hard time with all the walking- and you cannot break off from the tours- so maybe save this one for the older kids. There are a lot of tours to choose from- and if you have never been before we would recommend the #1 tour to get a basic overview. This takes a large part of the day to get there- take a tour- and get back to SLO- so make sure you have the time to spare- but if you do- it is a amazing place. Check HERE
